Why it works
A bathtub of ice is not a bar.
The usual birthday drinks setup is an esky on the deck, a bottle opener nobody can find, and someone's dad pouring warm prosecco into a plastic cup.
Swap that for a proper bar and the whole night changes. People have something to walk up to, something to talk about, and a drink that looks like it cost more than it did. You stop restocking the fridge and start enjoying your own party.
It also solves the bit nobody plans for: the first thirty minutes, when guests arrive at different times and stand around not knowing what to do with their hands. For something smaller, bottled cocktails delivered the day before do the same job.

21sts
Big numbers, fast service, and an RSA-certified bartender who will quietly manage the pace. Parents relax a lot once they meet him.
30ths
Smaller, later, and everyone actually cares what is in the glass now. This is where the spicy margarita earns its reputation.
40ths and 50ths
Usually at home, usually catered, usually the drinks are the afterthought. They should not be.

The bar, set up before guests arrive
We arrive early, build it where it looks best, and are pouring by the time the first person walks in.
Real glassware, not plastic
Cut crystal, brought and taken away again. It is most of the reason the photos look good.
A menu picked for your crowd
Two to four cocktails. Tell us the group and we will pick, or name one after the birthday person.
Someone who reads the room
Keeps the drinks moving early, slows it down late, and tidies as they go without being asked.
Non-alcoholic done properly
Designated drivers and anyone not drinking get something as good as everyone else, not lemonade.
Nothing left behind
We pack down and take it all with us. No bin bags on the lawn in the morning.

Questions about birthdays
How many people is it worth it for?
From about twenty. Below that a cocktail masterclass is often the better night.
Can we do it at home?
Most birthdays are at home. We need a flat patch about two metres wide and a power point nearby if you want anything frozen.
Is it a problem if it is a 21st?
No, and it is one of the things we do most. Every bartender is RSA certified, which means ID gets checked and the pace gets managed. Parents tend to find that reassuring.
Do we supply the alcohol?
Your call. BYO usually works out cheaper because you buy the spirits at retail, and we tell you exactly how much to get. Or we quote it fully supplied.
Can you name a cocktail after the birthday person?
Yes, and printed menu cards on the bar are included. They end up in a lot of photos.
How long do you usually stay?
Three to four hours suits most birthdays. Two hours is the minimum, and there is a minimum spend we'll confirm when you send us the date.
What if the numbers change?
Tell us up to about a week out and we will adjust. Birthday numbers always move.
